The States that made up SouthEast are Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi,Enugu and Imo States and their Capitals are Umuahia,Awka,Abakaliki, Enugu and Owerri respectively. 1. Umuahia is the Capital of Abia State and the name Umuahia is derived from Ama Ahia, which means "Market place or Market Centre. It was British Colonist, who move to the Area and invaded it sometime around the mid-to late 19th Century, upon learning the name mispronounced and misspelled it as "Umuahia". 2. Awka is the Capital City of Anambra State. The City was declared Capital on 21st August 1991 after the Creation of Anambra and Enugu State which makes to move the Capital from Enugu to Awka. 3. Enugu is the Capital of Enugu State. The name is derived from two Igbo words Enu Ugwu meaning "Hill top" denoting the City's hilly geography. 4. Owerri is the Capital of Imo State.
