Returning from a Black History Month event in Jamaica, Muhammad Ali Jr. and his mother, Khalilah Camacho Ali, were pulled aside and separated from each other on Feb. 7 at the immigration checkpoint at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, said Chris Mancini, a family friend and attorney. Camacho Ali was released a short time later after showing a photo of herself with her ex-husband, the former heavyweight boxing champion, Mancini said. But Ali Jr. was not carrying a photo of his world-famous father — a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Ali Jr., 44, who confirmed his Muslim faith, was detained about two hours, despite telling officials that he's Ali's son and a native-born U.S. citizen, Mancini said. It was the first time Ali Jr. and his mother have ever been asked if they're Muslim when re-entering the United States, he said. "From the way they were treated, from what was said to them, they can come up with no other rational explanation except they fell into a profiling program run by customs, which is designed to obtain information from anyone who says they're a Muslim," Mancini said in a phone interview. "It's quite clear that what triggered his detention was his Arabic name and his religion." U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Daniel Hetlage confirmed Saturday evening that Ali Jr. was held for questioning by customs officers, but said "it wasn't because he's a Muslim and it wasn't because of his Arabic-sounding name." The agency said in a statement that its officers process more than 1.2 million international travelers daily with "vigilance and in accordance with the law." It said it does not discriminate based on religion, race, ethnicity or sexual orientation. "We treat all travelers with respect and sensitivity," the agency said. "Integrity is our cornerstone. We are guided by the highest ethical and moral principles." During his detention, Ali Jr. was asked repeatedly about his lineage and his name, "as if that was a pre-programmed question that was part of a profile," Mancini said. Ali Jr. and his mother have been frequent global travelers. The family connects their treatment to President Donald Trump's efforts to restrict immigration after calling during his campaign for a ban on Muslims entering the U.S. "This has never happened to them before," Mancini said. Now, these fisherman caught a manta ray on camera that’s huge, reported Mashable. In fact, it’s making us wonder if the Loch Ness Monster might be real. At the time of the sighting a couple weeks ago, the Outcast Sport Fishing crew was off the coast of Hilton Head Island, SC. Speaking of manta rays, ICYMI, diving with manta rays is ~super common~, like with companies such as Big Island Divers, especially in climates like Hawaii. And we’ve talked about manta rays before, like this diver who recently went night swimming with a ~gigantic~ one. And “ Mantas are of minimal danger to humans,” according to the Florida Museum. Good to know, yes?! And if they look ~huge~, that’s because they are. The largest manta rays have a “wing span” of approximately 22 feet across — though some could be as large as 30 feet across (!). That’s gi-nor-mous! The manta ray that the Outcast Sport Fishing crew saw was 16 feet, according to The Island Packet. Usually, the crew is out looking for white sharks, so imagine their surprise when they came upon the manta ray instead. You can take a look at their video here. W-O-W, right?! The manta ray let the men take video like “nbd, take all the video you want,” then swam off. Nature is ah-mazing. Speaking of which, we’re going to go look into those manta ray night dives in Hawaii rn. Anyone else?

While hosting the 89th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday night, Jimmy Kimmel arranged to play a prank on a group of unsuspecting Los Angeles tourists. The group was on one of those tour buses that coast around Hollywood, hoping to catch a glimpse of a star or two — and never, ever do … until now. The bus dropped them off at the Dolby Theatre, where they were led directly to the stage. Kimmel had the lights turned down and instructed the well-heeled crowd to yell “Mahershala!” when the tourists arrived. The idea was to capture the shock and awe on the non-famous folk’s faces when they realized where they were — and that sort of happened — but they got over it pretty quickly, and were soon getting close (really close!) to many of the stars. He also kissed Octavia Spencer‘s hand, Meryl Streep‘s hand, and grabbed a gift out of Ryan Gosling‘s hands while his fiancée, Vicky (they’re getting married this summer), got a hug from Viggo Mortensen. The Academy Awards ended in dramatic fashion when screen legends Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistakenly crowned La La Land the year’s Best Picture. Moments later though, it emerged that the actual winner was Moonlight, a dramatic reversal that played out in equally dramatic fashion. Here’s how this Oscar mistake went down: After the montage of all the nominees, Beatty opened the envelope and appeared to be taking a deliberate pause before announcing the winner. “You’re impossible,” his Bonnie and Clyde co-star remarked, laughing. He then handed the envelope to Dunaway, who took a quick look at the card and read, La La Land. The team behind the musical — which had already won six Oscars, including Best Actress for Emma Stone and Best Director for Damien Chazelle — thronged the stage, and producer Jordan Horowitz was the first to speak, thanking the Academy, his wife and the cast and crew. But as producer Marc Platt stepped up to the mike to take his turn, Oscar producers emerged from backstage and spoke to the assembled group. When the final producer, Fred Berger, took his turn, he offered up a few thank yous, before saying, “We lost, by the way.” At that point, Horowitz rushed back over and said, “There’s a mistake. Moonlight, you guys won Best Picture. This is not a joke.” With the audience still clearly uncertain about what was happening, host Jimmy Kimmel took the stage to help clear things up. And Horowitz helped out, holding up the card with Moonlight‘s name printed on it, graciously saying, “I’m going to be really proud to hand this to my friends from Moonlight,” as the La La Land team ceded the stage. While the Moonlight group gathered, Beatty returned to the mic to explain what had happened. “I opened the envelope, and it said ‘Emma Stone, La La Land,” the actor/director said, suggesting that he had been handed the envelope that corresponded to the Best Actress category rather than Best Picture. “That’s why I took such a long look at Faye and at you [the audience]. I wasn’t trying to be funny.” With the actual winner announced, the room erupted in cheers for Moonlight, and director Barry Jenkins seemed as wowed by what had transpired as the crowd. “Very clearly, even in my dreams this could not be true. But to hell with dreams! I’m done with it, because this is true.” He also took a moment to send his love to La La Land, before turning to one of his stars, Janelle Monáe, for a hug. “I’m still not sure this is real,” said Moonlight producer Adele Romanski, summing up the feelings of many in the audience. So there you have it. Moonlight, not La La Land, is the Best Picture of 2016. And now we may have also solved another long-standing Oscar debate: whether or not Marisa Tomei genuinely won her Best Supporting Actress statue in 1993 for My Cousin Vinny. For years, rumors have circulated that presenter Jack Palance had his own Steve Harvey moment, reading the wrong name off the card. But the Academy has always maintained that if such a mistake was ever made, they would intervene. Tonight, we saw that in action. Today, RFI is part of the France Médias Monde (FMM) group with other overseas broadcasters like France 24 and Monte Carlo Doualiya (MCD) . RFI's English-language service has over 40 journalists and producers in its Paris office with a wide network of correspondents around the world. The English service is just one of RFI's language services, we also broadcast in Kiswahili (from Dar es Salaam), Hausa (from Lagos), Spanish, Portugese, Arabic, Chinese and Russian. Radio France Internationale as a whole has over 1,000 employees, with a global network of 600 correspondents. Our English-language programmes are available on our website for 24 hours after they go out. You can also subscribe to podcasts of different parts of the broadcast. Information on our frequencies (FM, Shortwave, Internet, Mobile phone, Satellite) is available on our website. Shortwave reception reports are welcome by post or email.
