Nigeria is a very significant country when it comes to Literature in Africa. Having produced exceptional and award winning writers like Chinua Achebe, Ben Okri, Wole Soyinka and Chimamanda Adichie, Nigeria could easily take the crown if there was a contest. However, there is one record in Nigeria and Africa as a whole that was (and is still) held by an Igbo man. The Record The best selling single book ever written by a native African is the iconic, ever-green novel "Things Fall Apart" which was written by the legendary Nigerian writer, Chinua Achebe, who is from the igbo ethnic group. Achievements In African literature , "Things Fall Apart" is considered as a milestone . Amongst all of Achebe's works, "Things Fall Apart" is the most popular and often read . The novel has generated the most examination, critical response, and literary criticism. It is studied globally in the European continent, India, and the continent of North America. It is the highest selling novel written by a native African ; having sold more than 20 million copies worldwide (Source : Wikipedia - Best Selling Books). It was included in TIME Magazine's catalogue of 100 Best English-language Novels; within the time frame of 1923 to 2005.
