Welcome to mjventertainment.blogspot.com: Listen PARIS FRANCE PROTESTS Issued on 23-06-2016 • Modified 23-06-2016 to 19:17 Paris labour reform protest march passes off peacefully by RFI A general view shows the Place de la Bastille square as French labour unions employees attend a demonstration against plans to reform French labour laws. REUTERS/Jacky Naegelen Tens of thousands of people marched in Paris to protest against the labour reforms proposed by the government. Unlike some of the previous protests, no clashes were reported this time in the French capital. However, there were some disturbances reported during a march in the western city of Rennes. The trade unions estimated that around 60,000 people participated in the march in Paris that started at 2:15 pm at the historic Bastille square. The police prefecture placed the number to be around 20,000. The route in the French capital had been curtailed to just 1.6 km in order to prevent a repeat of violence that had marred last Tuesday’s protest. More than 2000 policemen were deployed for the march. Police said they took at least 85 people into detention even before the march commenced for possession of objects that could be used as projectiles. The trade unions led by CGT have been protesting against the government over the bill to reform labour laws which, critics say, would dismantle job guarantees for workers. Meanwhile, French president Francois Hollande on Thursday said that his government would “go all the way” to enact the controversial labour reforms.
